The latest of the hearses we have built. A new-generation Ford Transit Custom with an aluminium load area, two coffins side by side and a sliding tray that brings them out through the rear and the side door.
Load area
Floor and sides are lined in aluminium. Rollers and guide rails in the floor keep the coffin true, the sliding tray brings it out over the rear sill; the side door is used to load the second coffin. We widened the rear pillars so nothing gets in the way of the tray.
The ceiling carries LED lighting dimmed from a single button; the storage space under the floor is kept.
Before and after
The van arrived as an empty panel van. The conversion covers measuring, making the aluminium parts to fit, fitting, wiring and finally approval and registration as a special-purpose vehicle.
Previous builds
We build sliding coffin trays for funeral services repeatedly. The earlier vehicle in the gallery below has powered trays, widened rear pillars, a lower roller blind over the storage space and dimmable LEDs.
